My hefty sun hat flopped in the humid California air, as I applied my sunscreen.  Today was the first day of Summer, a nessicary component in life for a soon-to-be eighth grader. But, for now, I'm stuck as a "summer seventh," as my friends and I like to call it. The sky was a bright, and beatiful today. No clouds strayed, and no car was out. Just then, my cat sauntered out from the ocean. His dark black fur drenched with sea, and he smelled of salt and rotten fish.

I smiled, and started to relax, as his wet tail carressed my burning body. My eyes instantly shut, and before I knew it, I was asleep. The lap of the ocean slowly faded. I woke up to a soft, and light rubbing. Bumble was settling on my stomach. Usually, he only did that when it was time for dinner, at about seven o' clock. My heart lurched. I was past curfew!

My senses became sharp, and I dashed for a towel, trying fiercely not to think of the concequences of my situation. Surely, my mom would understand; But there was no excuse that would persuade my father for my wrong doing! My heart raced, as my sandals smacked the pavement. Abruptly, I came to a halt, and Bumble bumped into me, while trying to keep up pace. I tried to calm myself down. In the sudden rush, I had forgotten that my parents had gone out to dinner until nine, and my older sister was out at a friend's house. That was enough to stop the drumming in my chest.
